From the old comes the new
January 21st 2011
The unwanted jewellery for this job was mostly 18ct yellow gold but had some white gold links in the chain, gemstones and catch springs that needed to be removed and returned to the customer. Once this was done I fabricated the gold into a usable form and then made the new rings.
18ct yellow gold generally recycles better than the lower carat gold. For various reasons most white gold alloys do not recycle regardless of their carat and need to be refined.
After I finished making these two rings we had some remaining gold which was returned to the customer and they are now looking at using it to make a Celtic knot pendant.
