Noisy Friarbird
Male and female look alike. The neck collar & centre breast feature long silvery feathers. They are common with southern birds migrating northward for winter. They love eucalypt forests, open forest , parks and gardens.
They feed on nectar, insects and native fruits. They are the strangest looking Honeyeater I have seen.
The eyes are red with the head and upper neck bare black with a prominent knob on the large bill.
The underparts are off white and the wings mid grey. The back and rump are coloured brown. The tail is brown with white tips.
They are a noisy bird that actively defends its territory. They have a “four-o-clock” call followed by noisy cackles and chuckles.
