Brown Cuckoo-dove
The male and female of this dove look similar however the female has a chestnut crown. Both sexes have a white line under their eye. Eye colour is blue with a fine red eye ring again for both sexes.
They have a distinctively long tail. Underparts are pale brown. The upper parts are dark brown with a metallic sheen on the neck.
Females also have a darker throat and chest than the males. Immature birds are duller than adults.
They live in coastal rainforests, forest margins and wooded areas adjacent to streams like you find in the Ravenshoe area.
They are mostly arboreal (live in trees) and forage in low branches for fruit, berries and seeds.
They are common to rainforest and regrowth areas but populations have been decimated by shooting and the clearing of rainforest.
