Wedge-tailed Eagle

Mt Garnet, June 2021.

The Wedge-tailed Eagle is Australia’s largest raptor. After the size the distinctive long wedged tail and densely feathered legs make identifying this bird very easy.

The day we spotted this bird we were actually watching an Australian Bustard bird and heard some noise behind us. This bird had killed a small falcon. I was too slow to change my camera to bird in flight settings to get great photos but did manage to get this photo as the Eagle flew away with the falcon in claw.

I watched where the bird flew to and was lucky enough to get close and some photos of the bird enjoying it’s meal.
