Little Kingfisher

Tarzali Lakes, January 2021.

They like mangrove lined estuaries and watercourses lined with rain forest. Their eyes are dark brown and have a white spot in front of them.

Both sexes are alike with a glossy blue upper body.

The under parts of their body are white and I often see them with a touch of orange on the sides of the breast.

You usually see these birds on a perch and are quite difficult to get close to. Whilst perched the are almost always scanning for prey.

They eat fish and other aquatic life but as you can see from above they also eat grubs.
